How safe is your car parked near to Premiership Football Stadiums?

As most football league clubs are gearing-up for the new season, which starts at the beginning of August, a survey conducted by Churchill Car Insurance last month reveals which Premiership grounds are definitely offside when it comes to car insurance claims. The survey involved statistics from the last 4 years of claims by postcode to identify whether you could be at increased risk of a car accident, theft of or accidental damage to your car if you live near to any of the UK's top Premiership Clubs.

Topping the poll was White Hart Lane, home to Tottenham Hotspur, followed closely by West Ham United, and Aston Villa who play at Villa Park in Birmingham. For those who follow football, these findings will not come as any surprise given these grounds are situated in inner city areas with high densities of population and above average crime rates. What is significant, however, is that new grounds, such as those in Wigan and Bolton, are at the bottom of the poll because these new football stadiums are sited outside traditional inner city areas.

The serious message from Churchill, however, is that if you are an 'away' fan travelling to matches at these grounds or you live in these areas, on match days there is an increased risk of theft and accidental damage to your vehicle. General advice would therefore begin with the removal of any valuable possessions from your car before you leave it, or obscure them from view, and ensure the car is secured properly and left in a well-lit area.
