Car insurance claims set to rise again
As if life couldn’t get any worse for Britain’s beleaguered motorists, a survey by the RAC of its breakdown Patrols has revealed that the quality of roads appears to be worsening resulting in higher numbers of breakdowns.
Poorer quality roads are causing ever higher numbers of tyre punctures, front windscreen and underbody damage. This is extremely bad news for both the insurance industry who will pick up some of the cost in claims for chipped windscreens for example and the ordinary car motorist who is facing more frequent repair bills and potentially higher car insurance premiums in the long run.
The survey also shows that despite RAC patrols reporting increased
levels of roadworks, the situation regarding road quality is worsening.
Not surprisingly, the RAC along with many other organisations are calling
for the Brown Government to increase funding for roads in line with
revenues collected from car taxation and escalating fuel duty. Sadly,
this is unlikely as last year the Government collected 44 billion in
car taxes alone and spent just 3.7 billion on improving the roads across
the UK according to the Freight
Transport Association.
