Nearly Half of Households own 2 Cars

Although it will come as no surprise to some, nearly 50% of households in the UK own two cars or more. To simplify insuring these cars Aviva previously known as Norwich Union in the UK car insurance industry has just brought out a multi car insurance product.

This new policy which combats Admiral's multi car insurance policy covers husbands, wives, common law partners and even relatives who reside in the property. Another factor of the policy is that it will insure students whilst they are at University during term time. Aviva multi car also offers cover for small business or partnerships provided all vehicles are registered at the same business address.

In the past some motorists have been wary of such products because of the fear of losing no claims discount. Not so according to Aviva. Each driver registered under the policy has a separate NCD meaning that if one driver in the household loses their NCD, other drivers are not affected.

If this new policy provides competition in the market place, it could remove the temptation by some motorists to mislead insurers where by young drivers are named drivers on policies when in factor they are main drivers. Every driver on this new policy can build up their NCD whether they remain on the policy or leave.
