Car Insurance fraudsters Jailed
In a joint operation between Police and the Insurance Fraud Bureau otherwise known as the IFB the “Crash for Cash” ring leader in what has turned out to be a major investigation into fraudulent claims was jailed on Monday at Bradford Crown Court with a custodial sentence lasting 5 years.
This further sentencing result is a another indication of the newly formed Insurance Bureau determination to stamp out all types of insurance fraud and helps reduce insurance premiums for law abiding policyholders.
The total number convicted in this particular case now stands at 5. What this case highlights is that the Insurance Fraud Bureau and the Police are working very closely together. Recent statistics from the IFB estimate that over 1.6 billion is raised through insurance fraud in the UK every year meaning that the average policyholder’s premium is increased by 5%. There is also evidence to show that much of the proceeds of this type of criminal activity funds other types of more serious crime including drug trafficking and gun running.
To date over 97% of the UK’s personal lines insurers participate in the service offered by the IFB. For further information visit the Insurance Fraud Bureau
