The Legal Profession and motoring convictions

Ground breaking research conducted by Admiral Car Insurance has revealed that the Legal Profession are the worst offenders in terms of clocking up motor convictions such as using a mobile phone whilst driving, traffic light offences and speeding. The legal profession consists of Judges, Magistrates and Lawyers. What is even more startling is the fact that this group are 60% more likely to accrue points on their licence compared to the average motorist!

Admiral’s research analysed 1.6 million car insurance policies taken out in 2008. Surprisingly, other professions associated with responsibility were also found to have worse than average driving records, these included the medical profession who were 48% more likely to have a driving conviction than an ordinary driver, religious leaders were 30% more likely, the police were 25% more likely and lastly teachers were 10% more likely.

Apart from the question of leading by example, what the analysis does not show is why individuals working in these prominent professions are more prone than the ordinary driver in accumulating motoring convictions, someday there will no doubt be further research revealing why this is!
