High Insurance Premiums for Convicted Mobile Phone Motorists
According to a survey undertaken by a leading insurance price comparison site, a third of all UK motorists admit to illegally using their mobile phones. Apart from the fact that this is illegal in addition to the safety issues, those drivers who are caught are fined £60, incur 3 points on their license and face massive insurance premium rises. It will soon be the 5th anniversary of the Mobile phone law which applies whether you are talking, reading or sending texts.
As part of the research, a number of insurance companies were contacted for quotes including Swift cover and Liverpool Victoria with and without mobile phone convictions. The results revealed that drivers with a mobile conviction could pay 54% more for their car insurance than drivers without a conviction. Furthermore, some insurance companies refuse to insure drivers who were caught using the mobile behind the wheel.
Other research findings reveal that young drivers aged 20 were the worst offenders. In the United Kingdom as a whole, London drivers appeared to admit using a mobile phone illegally more than any other region. Drivers in the South West admitted to be text obsessed.
