These car insurance brokers can trace their routes back to 1957 when the first branch was opened in Salford. The early part of the 90's saw Swinton become a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal & Sun Alliance. In May 2001 the company was bought by the MMA Insurance Group. The following year they acquired Colonnade Insurance Brokers. This merger makes them the biggest car insurance broker on the high street, with branches covering 90% of the UK. The company also own the insurance online intermediary Its4me plc.

These brokers offer a variety of insurance products including car, van, taxi, motorcycle, caravan and motor caravan. Insurance cover can be arranged in their branches or over the phone, or online.

The panel of car insurers these brokers currently use include Norwich Union, Royal & Sun Alliance, NIG, Corithian, Red Star Equity, Allianz Cornhill, Link, Zenith, Zurich, Fortis, Provident, MMA, Groupama and Highway.

Swinton's taxi insurance offers cover for private and public hire vehicles, including minibuses, with the option of taking out either three, six or twelve month insurance policies*. These brokers also offer a range of van insurance policies to meet the needs of companies operating small commercial vehicles (up to 3.5 tons) in connection with their business. Product features and benefits include an introductory discount if you've had no previous insurance policies, and security discounts. Any car driver cover is also available, as are discounts for building and related trades, excess discounts, women driver discounts. Trailer cover is available, and glass cover on comprehensive policies, as well as age of car discounts.
