Car Insurance Group - Allianz Cornhill

This group is one of the world's leading insurance and financial services providers. Founded in 1890 in Berlin the group is now present in over 70 countries with more than 181,000 employees. At the top of the international group is the holding company, Allianz AG, with its head office in Munich. Allianz Group provides over 60 million of its customers worldwide with a comprehensive range of services in the areas of property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, asset management and banking.

In fiscal 2002, the groups total premium income amounted to 82.6 billion euros. Of that total, just over half was generated by property and casualty insurance and slightly less than half by life and health insurance. Today, the majority of the group's premium income is earned outside Germany.

At the end of 2002 Allianz Group had assets under management of more than 989 billion euros. Of this, 561 billion euros were assets managed for third parties.

The UK operation includes Allianz Cornhill, Cornhill Direct and Petplan. Allianz Cornhill, formally known as Cornhill Insurance, was founded in 1905 and is one the UK's leading general insurers. Cornhill purchased Petplan in 1996 having underwritten Petplan’s policies since 1994. In 1999 Cornhill further expanded into the marketplace with the purchase of DBI, the second biggest animal health insurer.
