This group is perhaps unique in the UK insurance world, being described as a 'commercial organisation with a social concern.' The group is based in Eastbourne, West Sussex, with the registered office in Gloucester.

Ansvar is committed to a clearly defined ethical trading and investment policy and therefore is precluded from selling to organisations whose main business is involved in the selling of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, armaments and gaming or betting activities. Similarly, the groups investment policy is summarised as follows: "there should be no investments in shares of a company where the predominant proportion of that company's turnover or profit derives from the brewing and distilling of alcoholic beverages, tobacco production, armaments production and gaming or betting activities".

In addition to fulfilling the needs of the non-profit commercial sector, this insurance group has also built a UK network of advisors able to provide advice as well as household (and other selected personal line) quotes to individuals who empathize with organisations in the non-profit sector, through active church membership, committed voluntary work and regular charitable tax effective giving e.g. CAF CharityCard, Give As You Earn, Covenant etc.

In the commercial insurance sector the group offer both comprehensive and third party, fire & theft insurance minibus cover to churches and charities, many of which organise day trips and excursions ranging from camping trips for young people to outings for the elderly.

The groups charitable achievements include sponsoring the Global Rock Challenge, Salvation Army and UK Charity Awards.
