Highway Insurance Holdings plc, formerly known as Ockham Holdings plc, was created in 1995 from the Sturge Group and is an FSA regulated insurance company. They commenced trading in January 2000 and reported audited pre-tax profits of £5.8 million for their first year of operation. The group operates from five locations in the UK and has just over 500 staff.

Car insurance cover is sold through a network of intermediaries and more recently direct to the public. The company's strategy has been to target non-standard niche car insurance products such as cover for young drivers or for older or high performance cars. However, this has changed and now Highway claims to offer competitive car insurance quotes to a wider audience. This is summed up by its marketing slogan "Whether you're insuring a Fiesta or Ferrari, Lamborghini or Lada, Highway Insurance has the best deals for you."

For those who request an online quote direct from Highway, car insurance cover is only available to residents of England, Scotland and Wales. If you prefer to shop around there is the facility to save your online quotation and revisit this if you wish to buy at a later date. The use of specified credit or debit cards is also permitted to buy policies online.
